Reykjavíkurdætur’s Iceland covers Eurovision hit ‘Bad luck’
They are the all-female rap group competing in Songvakeppnin 2022. Although Reykjavikurdaetur are newcomers to the national finals, they know the contest and Eurovision as a whole very well – much like the rest of Iceland.
To prepare for the Icelandic national team, the band released their own cover of “No chance” by Selma. The millennium banger secured Iceland second place at Eurovision in 1999.
Along with the single’s release on streaming services, the band created a music video. And wiwiblogs is happy to give the video its exclusive world premiere!
Reykjavíkurdætur covers Selma’s “All out of luck”
Reykjavíkurdætur’s music video for “All our of luck” consists of clips of the band members at the age they were when the song was originally released. It also includes excerpts from the band’s various tours across Europe and North America. The inspiration for the video comes from their own love for the song upon its initial release. The new version of the song was done by the band’s own Salka Valsdóttir and the video was edited by elfgrime.
“Bad luck” has held a place in the hearts of Icelanders ever since Selma swept the stage in Jerusalem. Alongside her dancers rocking her trench coat, Selma achieved the North Atlantic island’s best Eurovision result at the time. Since then, pop song has been a stable on Icelandic dancefloors.

Reykjavíkurdætur are all huge fans of the song and Selma, and achieving this cover made them even more excited for their debut at Söngvakeppnin. The group is known for their provocative lyrics and cheeky performances as well as their feminist agenda, but Iceland is no stranger to ruffling a feather. We all remember Silvia Night and Hatari, right?
At the moment, the group consists of eight women, but they haven’t let the six-person-on-stage rule break their spirits. The plan is to have two members digitally on stage, but they haven’t specified how that will be executed. It will be necessary to wait until March 5 for Reykjavíkurdætur to perform their song “Tökum af stað” during the second semi-final of Songvakeppnin 2022.
