Boston post-rock band Burning Paris were initially around 2000 and 2003, during which time they released a feature film (2001’s Coral City Ruin), an EP/mini-album (2003’s And by December you’ll know where your heart really is), and other miscellaneous tracks, before parting ways and featuring members in On Fire, Esko Esko, and Lavinia. The discography compilation Half-truths and indiscretions: the retrospective was released in 2006, and was just reissued digitally by Pax Aeternum last month, with a CD release next week (5/20) via The Charon Collective, and the band have also reunited for their first new recording in almost 20 years.

The current roster includes original members Nate Shumaker, Jenny Townsend and Chris Lordan, and they are now also joined by Nate Lavinia bandmate Jon McMahan and new drummer Brad Caetano (Herra Terra, Arms & Sleepers, Seneca, AM/PM) . Their first new recording is a cover of Starfly 59“Softness Goodness” by , which will appear on Starflyer’s upcoming tribute album 59 Major Awards: A Tribute to Starflyer 59, scheduled for July 9 via Pacifirecords. Their version stays pretty true to the original, but they play it the way they wrote it. Here is what Nate says:

When three original members of The Burning Paris started playing together last year, there was no intention of resurrecting the old band. Once we started writing together, it became clear that our sound stayed true to our musical roots, but reflected almost twenty years of evolution through various other musical projects we had been involved in. With the addition of a new drummer (Brad) and guitarist (Jon), we have come to our current state of being, which is a stronger, more confident embodiment of his old self. We are currently working on our next album which will represent experienced perspectives on previously explored concepts with our traditional sound that simultaneously embraces the beautiful, the messy, the chaotic and the cathartic. Quiet music played loud.

I’ve been a fan of SF59 since I first heard the opening riff from their debut album in 1993. Every album they make makes me feel that again. So having the chance to cover one of Jason Martin’s tracks made sense to me and our band as well. I chose it because it’s moving and I think the concept that Jason addresses with the words resonates with me. It feels existential without being too pretentious in a reflection of life itself.

Listen to the cover below and stay tuned for more on their upcoming album. The band also have upcoming tour dates, including a show in Cambridge this month with SOM and Dreamtigers. All dates are listed below.

After having had to postpone because of the Covid, Spoon finally got to play NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Friday night (5/6), with a tour mate Margaret Glaspy. The set was a crowd-pleasing mix of old favorites and songs from their excellent new album. Lucifer on the couch. They opened the show with this album cover of Smog’s “Held” and their main set included “The Beast and Dragon, Adored”, “Got Nuffin”, “The Fitted Shirt”, “The Underdog”, “I Turn My Camera On, “I Summon You”, “Wild” and more.

The postponement was fortuitous, as it meant Spoon was in New York the same week Arcade Fire were here for Saturday Night Live. The Montreal group currently includes Dan Boecknerwhich you may recall did the very good Divine Cups album with Britt Daniel in 2012. Spoon released Dan not for a Divine Fits song – which would have been awesome – but to play Dan’s Wolf Parade song “Modern World”, and had him stick around for the closing of the show “The rent I pay.” You can watch the video below.

The six-song encore also led Spoon to bring out Margaret Glaspy to cover Richard and Linda Thompson’s “I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight.” They also covered John Lennon’s “Isolation” to open the encore, and performed “The Way We Get By” and “Mystery Zone.” Check out Hammerstein’s full setlist, photos from the night by Edwina Hay and more videos below.

Following the conclusion of their current tour, Spoon will be released this summer with Bodega, then in the fall with label mates Matador Interpol and The Goon Sax.

Take the Spoon albums on vinyl.

Wolf Alice Cover King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's

English alternative rock band Wolf Alice performed a cover of “Sense” by psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The song originally served as the opening track for King Gizzard’s 2015 album Paper mache dream balloon.

Speaking on the King Gizzard track, Stereogum quotes Wolf Alice’s Ellie Roswell as saying, “It’s a beautiful song. It’s quite different from a lot of their other stuff. Sounds a bit like an old classic song, doesn’t it? Roswell went on to explain that the band had a hard time deciding which style they wanted to play and sing the song, and said they wanted to sing the song exactly as it was.

Wolf Alice’s cover of the 2015 Gizzard track mixes elements that remain very faithful to the original while adding certain changes that create a very distinct listening experience from the original rendition of “Sense”. Various melodies of the song, especially the way it is sung, remain very similar to the original despite being sung in a higher octave. However, Wolf Alice’s take on the track is decidedly less optimistic, opting to let soft, slow piano lines dominate much of the song’s soundscape. Listen to Wolf Alice’s rendition of “Sense” and a behind-the-scenes interview with the band via YouTube below.

Wolf Alice recently announced a new upcoming album titled blue lullabyslated for June 24 via Dirty Hit Records

Grammy-winning country duo Brothers Osborne paid tribute to the Judds on Saturday (April 30) during their Stagecoach performance, just hours after news broke of Naomi Judd’s tragic death.

Slowing down the tempo of their energetic set for a minute, the band’s TJ and John Osborne released their stripped-down, more poignant cover of the Judds’ 1984 hit, “Why Not Me.”

“You been looking for love all over the world / Baby, don’t you know that country boy is still free? Why not me? / Well, you finally came back to your old hometown / Your boy from Kentucky wait patiently why not me?” sings TJ in the first verse, with a reverse gender perspective.

“Why not me on a rainy day? / Why not me to take your worries away?” / Why not me? Why not me when the nights get cold? / Why not me when you get old? / Why not me?” the duo sings on the sounds of a simple acoustic guitar, the tender harmonies of John, the delicate work of the electric guitar.

The reigning ACM Duo of the Year performed a fiery 50-minute set at the annual California Country Music Festival, delivering hits like “It Ain’t My Fault,” “Shoot Me Straight,” “I’ m Not For Everyone” and the autobiographical “Younger Me,” which won a Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance earlier this year.

“Why Not Me” is the title track and lead single from the Judds’ 1984 debut album. The song became their second No. 1 hit, spending two weeks atop the chart. Billboard Chart of hot country songs. The mother-daughter duo had 14 No. 1 singles over their three-decade career, including “Mama He’s Crazy,” “Rockin’ With the Rhythm of the Rain” and “Girls Night Out.”

Naomi’s passing came as a shock to the country music community on Saturday, April 30, just a day before the Judds’ long-awaited induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In a statement, her daughters Wynonna and Ashley Judd shared that their mother had succumbed to the “disease of mental illness”.

The two sisters were present at the induction ceremony on Sunday May 1. There, Ashley tearfully told the crowd, “I’m sorry she couldn’t make it until today,” before Wynonna delivered her acceptance speech. Equally heartbroken, the “No One Else on Earth” singer publicly shared the family’s final moments with the matriarch, which included praying Psalm 23 together.

During the emotional induction, Carly Pearce paid tribute to her Kentucky compatriots with her heartbreaking rendition of “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout The Good Old Days)”, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings sang “Young Love (Strong Love) and Timmy Simms delivered the uplifting “Love Can Build a Bridge”.

The Judds have 14 No. 1 songs and topped Duo and Group of the Year awards at the CMA and ACM Awards in the 1980s. They also recorded several dozen great songs that never made it to radio. Here is their Top 10 songs of all time.

Korn covers

Korn technically offers an all-male lineup, but they’re a far cry from anything typically associated with boy band music of the late 90s and early 2000s. The era of Justin Timberlake and NSYNC was filled with teenagers singing sweet lyrics about love and romance. Korn, on the other hand, wrote music for those in different parts of life.

Although many fans of nostalgic 2000s music are now in their 20s and 30s, Korn’s music has always been popular with teens and adults alike. Their songs address topics like depression, drug addiction, abuse, and other themes that are the opposite of the themes you may have heard in the songs of dreamy boy bands of the era.

That’s why fans are loving Korn’s new cover of “I Want It That Way”, originally performed by NSYNC. The cover was posted on the band’s TikTok channel, and the comments are filled with humorous but heartfelt messages from fans who grew up listening to both Korn and NSYNC, with a user with the username Elihal calling out the cover. 24-second acapella “When my two personalities collide on Spotify.

The new video footage was captured during the video shoot for the band’s latest single, “Worst Is On Its Way,” according to ThePRP. To verify this outside below for join in on the nostalgia.

Bruce Springsteen made his first live appearance of 2022 on Sunday night when he paid tribute to his longtime friend Jon Stewart, who received the 23rd Annual Mark Twain Award for American Humor at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

During the show, Springsteen teamed up with Gary Clark Jr. to cover The Beatles’ “Come Together,” and a fan video is available below.

During the ceremony, Springsteen also performed an acoustic solo of his classic “Born to Run.”

Along with Springsteen, the ceremony brought together Dave Chappelle, Steve Carell, Pete Davidson, Samantha Bee, Jimmy Kimmel and Olivia Munn.

“It’s a miracle to see you working,” Chappelle told Stewart. “You are a cure for what ails our culture.”

In 2009, the tables were turned when Stewart spoke about Springsteen at the 2009 Kennedy Center Honors. “Every time I see Bruce Springsteen do something, he empties the tank — every time,” Stewart said that night. “And the beautiful thing about this man is that he’s emptying that tank for his family, he’s emptying that tank for his art, he’s emptying that tank for his audience, and he’s emptying it for his country. And we, who receive this beautiful gift, we ourselves are rejuvenated, if not redeemed, and I thank you for that.

Springsteen’s performance of “Come Together” with Gary Clark Jr marks his first rendition of the Beatles classic since the 1994 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony where he performed it with Axl Rose to honor John Lennon.

Springsteen’s plans for the rest of the year are unclear, but he told E Street Radio last month that a tour with the E Street Band was coming at some point. “We will be there,” he said. “We were hoping to be there this year, but I just didn’t have the confidence or wanted to risk it for my audience that it would be okay. We pushed back a bit. But we’re working on plans to put it all together now, so you’ll be seeing the E Street Band very soon.

King Crimson’s Robert Fripp and wife Toyah Willcox cover The Who classic Will no longer be fooled on the latest edition of their Sunday Lunch cover series.

As is customary for the duo in their weekly cover series, a handwritten message hung on their kitchen cabinet, asking “Fripp? Who.” The duo wore black aviator sunglasses for the performance, a nod to The Who frontman Roger Daltrey’s love of iconic sunglasses.

Also included at the end of the video was a blooper reel that gives fans a deeper look at the heartwarming dynamic between the duo as they try to get their cover right.

A new documentary on King Crimson, At the Court of the Crimson King – named after the pioneering progressive rock band’s debut album – premiered at this year’s SXSW film festival in March.

The documentary features in-depth interviews with co-founder Fripp as well as former band members, and is described as “a darkly comedic film for anyone wondering if it’s worth sacrificing everything for just one moment. of transcendence”.

Daltrey himself recently made headlines in November last year when he claimed in an interview that Jimi Hendrix’s theatrical rock was an act stolen from Who guitarist Pete Townshend. Daltrey conceded that both guitarists owe Buddy Guy a lot, saying, “You look at Buddy Guy at the start and suddenly realize – when you’re really looking for the inventor of it all, it was probably Buddy Guy. In fact, I would give it to Buddy Guy.

He also called the Rolling Stones “a mediocre pub band” in the same interview.
